Renting a pedicab with is a straightforward process designed for chauffeur-permitted drivers who are ready to work, explore, and earn. Once permitted, drivers can apply to rent a pedicab and operate under our established system.

How to Get a Chauffeur Permit:
Before You Apply
Determine eligibility to apply for a permit
A person may not drive a ground transportation service vehicle unless that person has a chauffeur's permit issued by the City. § 13-2-101

How It Works

Apply online by clicking "Start Application" below.
After submitting your application, you will receive a confirmation email.
Transportation and Public Works staff will review applications and documents.
Once your application has been submitted, you will receive an email with payment and notary instructions.
You WILL NOT be able to pay online at this time

personal check (as long as it is not a temporary check)
Make checks payable to the City of Austin
You application must be approved before you can schedule your written test at the our office: 1501 Toomey Road
Renewal
Chauffeur permits may be renewed within 30 days prior to the expiration date. There is no grace period on expired chauffeur permits.
Important Notes
The Ground Transportation Office does not provide copies of any documents.
CONDITIONAL CHAUFFER PERMITS
Applicants with an out-of-state driver's license may receive a conditional chauffeur permit. The permit is valid for 90 days. If you receive a Texas driver's license while the conditional permit is valid, you can convert the conditional permit to a full permit.
Getting hired
All of the cabs legally fit 3 passengers and are motorized. 12 hour Batteries are provided when leasing the cab. Training is granted as long as needed.
Training plans last 3 days It helps but is not required to be well versed of the local businesses within pedicab reach.
